Consultation sham
Home page     The Park in danger     Spot the boundary!     The Council's glossy leaflet
Lambeth Council wants to cut 1,000 sq metres off the Park near the Herne Hill gate to drive a road across the Park.     The Friends of Brockwell Park totally oppose the loss of so much parkland.
The 'consultation' period on the planning application opened 12 October and closes 2 November. The Council refuses to consult Park users and there has been no consultation with local residents since 2004 - which was about a different scheme.     Normally there would be prominent notices and widespread consultation. But the Council has changed this practice and is doing the absolute legal minimum. The Park has twelve entrances and nineteen public noticeboards. There are nineteen large colourful notices about consultation on the changing block - but only one small notice in the whole park about the road scheme. The Friends of Brockwell Park posted notices about the Planning Consultation on every Park gate but they have all been torn down. All other notices have been left intact.   Click below to see pictures of this 'consultation'.

Brixton Water Lane entrance
Brixton Water Lane has two noticeboards. There is no mention of the planning application on the gates or on either of the noticeboards. There are large, colourful notices about public consultation on the future of the changing block (and a notice about a lost dog) but nothing about the proposed road. On the noticeboard there's a notice banning mini-bikes but nothing saying the Council want cars and lorries to drive across historic parkland.

The Council clearly don't want local residents to know about the road scheme.
