This shows the existing park boundary compared to
Lambeth Council's proposed boundary. The public toilets will be demolished and 1,070 square
metres lost to the Park.
Traffic build-up in the Norwood Road is unacceptable and shaving a small amount
off the boundary at the stricture point at X above will make it
easier for traffic coming from right to left down Norwood Road and into Dulwich Road. Losing any parkland is a
very serious business but a few feet near this point will reduce congestion considerably.
Unfortunately the scheme got into the hands of Lambeth's traffic engineers - they want to demolish the public
toilets and take 1,070 square metres of parkland for a mega-traffic scheme
with a large, paved traffic island in the middle of the junction.
Lambeth Council pushed this through at their Planning Committee on a straight political vote.
Lambeth has acted disgracefully - they even tippexed out the date on a letter from the Chairs of the FoBP and
the Brockwell Park MAC to make it look as if they supported their scheme! Despite the FoBP alternative scheme
which takes only half the parkland, Lambeth is now destroying the Park just to prove they can. The finances
of the scheme only stack up because the Councillors in charge value parkland at zero!
We hoped Boris Johnson, Mayor of London would live up to his campaign promise to protect London Parks. He insisted
on "proper consideration" of our alternative scheme. Foolishly he left this up to Lambeth. Although nearly
800 people have asked him require an independent evaluation, his advisors tell us they are required to believe
what Lambeth tell them - even when it's not true.

You might ask them why there has been no independent evaluation of the two schemes for the road? why Lambeth suggested
submitting the new scheme for Planning Permisssion and now wants to go ahead with the works before
it is considered? and how much they have budgetted to replace the extra Parkland?
