No "proper consideration" Boris Johnson asked for "proper consideration" of the alternative road scheme for Brockwell Park - which was drawn up to meet the Council's own objectives. Lambeth Council haven't done this. Their safety audit (of an early version of the plans) doesn't consider the objectives of either scheme. It claims Lambeth's plan is better for cyclists. Lambeth Cyclists organisation say the alternative scheme can be at least as good as Lambeth's.

Independent evaluation needed Lambeth Council put the author of their scheme in charge of "considering" the new plans that take less parkland. There should be independent evaluation of the two schemes in terms of Lambeth's and TfL's objectives.

No cost-benefit analysis Lambeth has never done any cost-benefit analysis of either scheme and never costed the Metropolitan Open Space they will destroy. They say that TfL will pay to replace the parkland - but public money should not be used for Lambeth's extra 500 sq metres if it's not necessary.

Planning permission for the new scheme In January Lambeth invited the Friends of Brockwell Park to apply for Planning Permission for their scheme. This will cost around £2,000. If this process is successful, Lambeth will not be able to go ahead with its own scheme because their own UDP says they can only take the parkland if it is "essential". Now Lambeth say they are going ahead with their scheme before giving planning consideration to the new one. The Mayor of London should refuse to allow TfL funding until the planning process is completed.

Legal requirement to replace parkland Lambeth's legal department originally told Councillors that the Council would have to replace the parkland and that works could not commence until that had happened. Now Lambeth say they can go ahead because the Minister has given consent. The Councillors who want to save Brockwell Park have sent in a motion for the next Council meeting saying that the Minister cannot give Lambeth permission to break the law and the Council should seek a Counsel's opinion on the legal position. Lambeth should not proceed until the law is clarified.
