Traffic build-up in the Norwood Road is unacceptable and shaving a small amount
off the boundary at the stricture point at
X above will make it easier
for traffic coming from right to left down Norwood Road and into Dulwich Road. Losing any parkland is a
very serious business but a few feet near this point will reduce congestion considerably.
Unfortunately the scheme got into the hands of Lambeth's traffic engineers - they want to demolish the public toilets and take
1,070 square metres of parkland for a
mega-traffic scheme
with a large, paved traffic island in the middle of the junction. Lambeth Council pushed this through at their Planning Committee.
Lambeth's land grab can only go forward if it is funded by the Mayor for London. In his campaign Boris Johnson promised
to protect park land and Metropolitan Open Space.
His email, received on 10th July 2008, says:
“TfL has provided funding in order that the borough can undertake a feasibility study…TfL has made no
further contributions to the scheme and no further decisions should be taken until the feasibility study has been completed.”
We ask the Mayor not to authorise the money until there has been proper consideration
of alternatives and full consultation with residents and park users.
A 28 day
Ministerial public consultation on the road started on 7 July. It is being run by Lambeth and, naturally, they didn't tell anyone.
